Revealing the Powerful Deer Rut Rituals in Richmond Park: An Exclusive London Wildlife Vlog
Watch the fights and hear the bellows of Richmond Park deer during rutting season!
Richmond Park London
Richmond Park is one of the London Royal Parks and has been a deer park for over 350 years. I’m lucky enough to live close enough that going to Richmond Park and watching the deer behaviour change with the seasons has been one of the best things to do in London during lockdown. London wildlife is extraordinary!
Rutting season
The deer rutting season, AKA the mating season, is easily my favourite season for watching deer behaviour. During this period the males fight through intense clashes for the right to a harem of female deer (hinds). They bellow and roar to warn off would-be competitors and spend their days rounding up the hinds and trying to prevent them from switching harems!
